THE FIRST CHAPTER.
The Last Wave is the first monumental chapter of Urban Pixel, conceived as a site-responsive land art installation on the coast of Sardinia. More than one thousand decommissioned traffic signs will be assembled directly on the ground to form a contemporary reinterpretation of Hokusai’s Great Wave.
At its centre, a decaying apple is carried by the current — an image of consumption, waste and the fragile relationship between human systems and the natural world. The signs will remain unpainted and uncut, preserving their original colours, damage and material history.

The project does not reproduce Hokusai’s image: it translates its movement into a physical language of recovered signs. Each object becomes a pixel, while its former instruction, damage and colour remain visible within the larger composition.
The signs are not altered to fit the image; the composition must adapt to the material that already exists.
FROM PROTOTYPE TO MONUMENT.
Concerto 0 was created as the first full-scale field test for Urban Pixel. Using 127 decommissioned traffic signs, the prototype examined colour distribution, physical assembly, aerial readability and the transformation of individual objects into a unified image.
The knowledge developed through this experiment forms the technical and visual foundation for The Last Wave.
